Pastor Joe Wright<\/strong> sprach vor dem Kansas House of Representatives<\/em> (USA) am 23. Januar 1996 ein Gebet, das f\u00fcr einigen politischen Aufruhr sorgte. Schon w\u00e4hrend des Gebets verlie\u00dfen einige Abgeordnete unter Protest den Saal, einige Abgeordnete der Partei der \u201eDemokraten\u201c machten ihrem \u00c4rger Luft (\u201eIntoleranz\u201d<\/em>, \u201eradikale Ansichten\u201d<\/em>). Es wurde unz\u00e4hlig oft in anderen Bundesversammlungen (state legislatures<\/em>), Rundfunk und Fernsehsehsendungen wiederholt und debattiert. Die Kirche des Pastors, die Central Christian Church<\/em> in Wichita, erhielt in den folgenden sechs Wochen mehr als 6.500 Anrufe, davon nur 47 negative, und so viel Post, dass die Mitarbeiter der Kirche keinen Raum mehr fanden, sie unterzubringen. Anfragen aus aller Welt baten um Kopien des Gebetstextes, es wurde in Hunderten von Zeitungen und Kirchenbl\u00e4ttern abgedruckt und bei vielen Anl\u00e4ssen gebetet. Eine deutsche Bezugnahme fand ich im Buchkalender \u201eLeben ist mehr!\u201d<\/em> (Bielefeld: CLV, 2020) unter dem Datum 20.01.2021 (Autor: Daniel Zach). Was war so bemerkenswert an diesem Gebet?<\/strong> Sehen Sie selbst:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bbHeavenly Father<\/strong>,
we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, „Woe to those who call evil good,“ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We confess:
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism.
We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism.
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of your will.

Am 3. Januar 2021 betete Reverend Emanuel Cleaver II<\/a>, Mitglied des Repr\u00e4sentantenhauses, Parteimitglied der \u201eDemokraten\u201c, Geistlicher der United Methodist Church, ehemaliger B\u00fcrgermeister von Kansas City, Missouri, bei der Er\u00f6ffnung des 117. Kongresses der USA folgendes Gebet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bbEternal God<\/strong>, noiselessly we bow before Your throne of grace as we leave behind the politically and socially clamorous year of 2020. We gather, now, in this consequential Chamber to inaugurate another chapter in our roller coaster representative government. The Members of this august body acknowledge Your sacred supremacy and, therefore, confess that without Your favor and forbearance, we enter this new year relying, dangerously, on our own fallible nature.

God, at a moment when many believe that the bright light of democracy is beginning to dim, empower us with an extra dose of commitment to its principles. May we, of the 117th Congress, refuel the lamp of liberty so brimful that generations unborn will witness its undying flame. And may we model community healing, control our tribal tendencies and quicken our spirit that we may feel Thy priestly presence even in moments of heightened disagreement. May we so feel Your presence that our service here may not be soiled by any utterances or acts unworthy of this high office. Insert in our spirit a light so bright that we can see ourselves and our politics as we really are\u2013\u2013soiled by selfishness, perverted by prejudice and inveigled by ideology<\/strong>.

Now, may the God who created the world and everything in it bless us and keep us. May the Lord make His face to shine upon us and be 
gracious unto us. May the Lord lift up the light of His countenance upon us and give us peace\u2013\u2013peace in our families, peace across this land and dare I ask, O Lord, peace even in this Chamber, now and evermore. We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God and Brahma<\/span> and God known by many names by many different faiths.<\/span>
